Where does the red cable go on Bt hub
The Ethernet cable (red ends) must be plugged into the WAN port (or port 4) on your Hub and the other end into the Openreach modem’s PORT1/LAN1 port – the number of ports on these modems can vary.
Where do the cables go on a BT Hub
The Ethernet port is normally marked LAN and will connect with the ports on the back of your Hub.
But if you have Full Fibre, you will need a Cat5e Ethernet. BT will supply this, and it’s the cable with red ends.
You can buy Cat5e cables elsewhere, but they might have different colours.
How many lights should be on Openreach box
As you can see there are 4 lights at the top of the OpenReach Full Fibre modem – Power, LOS (Loss of Service or Loss of Signal), PON (Passive optical network) and LAN (Local Area Network – but you know this one, right?).
Do I need an engineer to install BT fibre
You’ll need to let the engineer into your home to complete the installation. The appointment may last up to four hours.
Make sure someone’s home for all of your appointment slot – and 3-4 hours afterwards, in case your engineer arrives towards the end of the slot.
Does BT fibre use Virgin cable
BT fibre is completely separate to Virgin fibre. There is no ‘switchover’, a new BT service would be provided and the Virgin service ceased.

If you’re switching broadband providers within the same network, (between BT Openreach providers, for example) and have all the connections in place, the switch can happen remotely.
What happens when Openreach install fibre
With Full Fibre installation, we’ll upgrade the master phone socket (the white box on the wall) and install an Openreach modem (ONT), which connects to the fibre optical cable that comes into your house.
The ONT enables you to get our fibre broadband and phone services, and connects to your BT Smart Hub.
How do I reset Openreach
Press the Reset button on the side of the Openreach modem and hold it in for five seconds.
Wait for the power light to come on and stop flashing. When the Tel and Pon lights have stopped flashing and are solid green, then your reset has been successful.
How long does Openreach take to install
Typically, installation (of both elements) takes about two hours. A fibre cable is fed from the nearby Connectorised Block Terminal to the outside of the premises, either from a nearby telegraph pole or underground chamber.
What are the green boxes on the street UK
These cabinets are maintained by Openreach, a former BT company which is now, theoretically, independent of BT and in charge of the majority of the UK’s telephone and broadband street infrastructure, including the green cabinets.
They are the ones that need to know, not us!

The most important criteria are price and speed here – you get more for your money, on average, from Virgin, and they have a wider range of fibre speeds on offer.

The BT Smart Hub (formerly BT Home Hub) is a family of wireless residential gateway router modems distributed by BT for use with their own products and services and those of wholesale resellers (i.e. LLUs) but not with other Internet services.
Can I use any router with BT full fibre
No, the Hub needs to be specially designed to work with Fibre so you can only use the BT Smart Hub or the BT Home Hub 5, Hub 4, Hub 3 or the earlier BT Infinity Hub.
The Hub 3 and Hub 4 also need to have an Openreach modem that was fitted by an engineer.
Does BT router have to be connected to master socket
You must always plug your Hub into the broadband connection on your master socket.
If you plug it into a phone socket or extension, it just won’t work.

Technically speaking, an Optical Network Terminal (ONT) is not a modem. However, for fiber-optic Internet, an ONT acts similar to a modem because it communicates with an Internet service provider (ISP).
There are three different types of modems: telephone (dial-up) modems, DSL modems, and cable modems.
How do I connect my landline to my BT home Hub
Link the handset – press OK on your phone and follow the on-screen steps.
When asked, press and hold the WPS button on your Hub for two seconds – it’s halfway up on the left hand side.
The WPS button will flash while the phone and Hub are linking and the phone will show it’s registering.
How long does it take for BT to install fibre
Work to complete the fibre installation in your home This usually happens seven working days after the first stage and you’ll need to be at home to let the engineer in.
The appointment will last up to four hours. Your BT Hub should arrive by post two days before your installation date.
Can I move my BT hub to another room
Router is fine to move, although if it’s to bring the router closer to something you’re plugging into it, you’re usually better off getting a longer CAT5 cable to plug into the router.

Re: Solid Orange Light on smart hub If the light is solid orange, then the Hub has a broadband connection but the login details it’s looking for to connect you to the internet are wrong or missing.
Dial 17070 from your landline and make sure that the phone number on the line is what it should be.
Why is my BT Hub not connecting to Internet
I’ve got no BT Broadband connection Make sure there are lights on your Hub.
If not, check the power cables are plugged in properly and it’s switched on at the mains.
Turn off your Hub, computer, and any devices you are trying to connect for five minutes before restarting.

What happens if I factory reset my BT router
When you reset your Hub to its factory settings, you’ll lose all updates to the Hub including wireless network name and password updates.
After a factory reset, you’ll be guided through the Smart Setup on all your devices (like when you first set up your Hub).
Why can’t I connect to my BT WIFI
If you’re in range of a hotspot and your device is still struggling to connect, go to the “Edit log in details” section within “Help and settings”.
Re type your username and password to go through set-up again. If you’re still having trouble connecting, go to the “Help” menu and select “Leave Us Feedback”.
Why is Virgin faster than BT
Unlike most other providers, Virgin Media doesn’t use Openreach and owns and operates its own cable broadband network.
And while it’s not as wide-ranging as Openreach, it uses newer technology to deliver faster speeds to Virgin Media customers.
Does my YouView box need to be connected to my router
Not all YouView boxes are Wi-Fi enabled. If they are not Wi-Fi enabled, they need a wired Ethernet connection to connect the internet, so that we can give you the best quality experience.
If you do not have a Wi-Fi enabled YouView box, we recommend using powerline adapters if your router is too far from your box.
Do you need a new phone socket for fibre
Fibre to the Cabinet If you’re setting up your Fibre, you don’t need a special faceplate.
We’ll send you microfilters to use with your existing socket. However, you don’t need to worry about microfilters if your master socket has already had a broadband accelerator faceplate fitted (master socket with two sockets).
How do I connect my new house to the Internet?
