Is FTTP better than Fttc broadband? Absolutely, yes. FTTP is capable of far higher speeds and typically also offers symmetrical speeds where your upload speed is the same as your download speed.
FTTC on the other hand has a much lower speed ceiling and upload speeds are typically a fraction of download speeds.
Can I transfer my landline number to a mobile phone
You can’t transfer a landline number to a mobile number. They are different systems.
Does Shell broadband use Openreach
EE, like Shell, use the Openreach FTTP network, while Vodafone use Openreach and CityFibre.
How do I know if I have FTTC or FTTP
To find out if you can get high-speed fibre broadband via FTTP, use an FTTP checking tool.
You’ll find these on an ISP’s website to let you quickly check if FTTP has been rolled out to your area.
If not, FTTC is probably the best alternative (unless you live in rural areas).
Which companies use BT Openreach
We supply network services to more than 650 service providers, for example Sky, BT, Vodafone, and TalkTalk, who use them to bring broadband packages to you.
What is an Openreach modem
If you are a fibre customer, it’s likely you’ll have an Openreach modem (or ONT) installed.
This white box connects to a fibre-optic cable that runs to your house and enables you to access our FTTP fibre network for broadband and voice.
Does Vodafone use Openreach
To make Full Fibre available to more homes than any other provider, Vodafone has created a unique combination of partnerships with CityFibre and Openreach.
Will FTTC be phased out
All PSTN lines, such as ISDN phone lines used by businesses, and all older internet connections, such as ADSL and FTTC broadband, will become obsolete.
Openreach is on course to replace all copper connections by the end of 2025, but some places will see them switched off well before then, starting with Salisbury.
What is Openreach FTTC
Superfast Fibre broadband, Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC) or VDSL uses fibre to connect our exchange with your local cabinet, and copper wires to connect the cabinet with your home.
With download speeds of up to 80Mbps, it’s great for both binging box sets and working from home.
What is the difference between BT and Openreach
Openreach Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of BT Group. We look after the copper wires and fibre cables that connect homes and businesses to phone and broadband.
Our customers are the 690+ communications providers who sell phone and broadband services to these households and businesses.

How long does Openreach take to connect fibre
Typically, installation (of both elements) takes about two hours. A fibre cable is fed from the nearby Connectorised Block Terminal to the outside of the premises, either from a nearby telegraph pole or underground chamber.
Why did BT and Openreach split
The legal separation of BT and Openreach was designed to address industry concerns that BT, as a provider of broadband services and owner of the UK’s largest broadband network, had the ability, incentive and propensity to favour itself when making investment and planning decisions, to the detriment of other network
What do Ofcom do
Ofcom is the regulator for the communications services that we use and rely on each day.
We make sure people get the best from their broadband, home phone and mobile services, as well as keeping an eye on TV and radio.
Is EE part of Openreach
EE broadband review: Coverage EE runs on the same Openreach network as EE and most other UK broadband services, which means it has exactly the same coverage.
Fibre services now reach 93% of the UK population, while over 6 million homes are able to connect to a full-fibre FTTP network.
Who are Openreach customers
We’re the people who connect homes, mobile phone masts, schools, shops, banks, hospitals, libraries, broadcasters, governments and businesses – large and small – to the world.
It’s our mission to build the best possible network with the highest quality of service, and make sure that everyone in the UK can be connected.
When did Openreach split from BT
Openreach was established in 2006 as a business division of BT. Following a series of reviews by Ofcom, in 2017 Openreach underwent a process of reform to be incorporated as a separate company within the BT Group, rather than a business division.
The change was required for competition reasons by Ofcom.
Why are Openreach in my street
Why is this? The Openreach availability checker checks to see if the street cabinet (the large green box on the street) is fibre enabled.
This means it has fibre capability and is ready to accept orders from all communication providers.
What happens when you complain to Ofcom
We assess each complaint carefully to see if our rules may have been broken.
If we decide the complaint doesn’t raise issues warranting further investigation, we’ll close the complaint and publish a record of this in our Broadcast and On Demand Bulletin, which is published every fortnight.
How do they get fibre to your house
The fibre cable will usually enter your property through the same point as your telephone line, which then connects to a modem to reach the signal.
Fibre to the cabinet on the other hand uses fibre optic cable ONLY to the cabinet, and then copper wire delivers the connection into your home or business.
